Life in the UK Mock Test

Life in the UK Test in Your Language

The real test is in English only. Our practice tests read every question aloud in your language, so you understand it while you learn the English.

Can you take the test in another language?

No. The Life in the UK test is sat in English, and the questions are shown in English at the test centre. There is no translated paper, no interpreter for the questions and no official voice-over.

There is one exception, and it is not a language one. If you have a disability or a long-term health condition, you can ask for help when you book. GOV.UK explains what support is available.

If a website tells you that you can sit this test in another language, it is wrong. Check anything you are told against GOV.UK before you pay anyone for it.

What we do instead

Our practice questions stay in English, exactly as the test shows them. Tap once and you hear the question and all four answers read aloud in your language, in a male or a female voice.

That way you learn two things at the same time: the fact the question is testing, and the English wording it uses. The wording matters, because on the day the English is all you get.

  • Every practice question has audio, not just a sample.
  • A male and a female voice in each language.
  • Works on the free mock test, the full mock test and topic practice.
  • Free to use while you practise, with a daily allowance.

Languages

Four languages are live now, plus an English reading for anyone who follows spoken English more easily than written English. The rest are marked SOON, and which one we build next depends on which of these people actually use.

If your language is not here yet, the English reading still helps. It reads the question and the answers at a steady pace, which is often enough to unpick a long sentence.

Common questions

Can I take the Life in the UK test in my own language?

No. The test is in English only. There is no translated version and no official voice-over in another language, unlike the CSCS construction test, which does offer one.

Which languages can I listen in while I practise?

Urdu, Polish, Romanian and Turkish, plus an English reading. Every practice question is covered in all of them, in a male or a female voice.

Will you add more languages?

Yes. Italian, Bengali, Farsi and Arabic are next in line. We decide the order from which languages people actually use here, rather than guessing.

Why do the questions stay in English?

Because the real test is in English. Practise on translated questions and test day is the first time you meet the English wording. That is the worst moment for a surprise.

Do I need an account to listen?

No. You can start the free mock test and listen straight away. An account gives you a larger daily allowance, and Premium removes the limit.

Is the audio a human voice?

It is a computer voice, and a clear one. It reads the question and then each answer, labelled A to D, at a steady pace you can follow.

Practise in the language you think in

Read the English, hear your language, and learn both at once. No account needed for your first test.
