What you get in the free test

The free mock test copies the real test. You get 24 questions and 45 minutes.

You answer one question at a time on screen. A timer runs while you work.

  • 24 questions. The same number as the real test.
  • 45 minutes. The same time limit as the real test.
  • Pass mark of 18 out of 24 (75%). The same mark you need on the day.
  • Your score right away. You do not wait for an email.
  • A reason for every answer. You learn from the ones you got wrong.

The questions are picked at random each time. So you can take the test again and see new ones.

Where the questions come from

Every question is based on the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents. That is the only book the real test uses.

One test pulls questions from all six topics. So a single sitting shows you which topic is weakest.

You can also drill one topic on its own. Pick a topic above, or start from practice by topic.

No sign-up for your first test

You do not need an account to start. You do not need to give an email address.

Press the button, answer the questions, see your score. That is the whole thing.

You get one free test a day this way. If you want more, make a free account. It takes about a minute.

What your score means

You need 18 out of 24 (75%) to pass the real test. Mark yourself the same way here.

  • 18 or more. You are close. Keep testing until you score 22 or more.
  • 13 to 17. You know some of it. Drill your weakest topics next.
  • 12 or fewer. Read the study guide first, then come back and test again.

One good score is not proof you are ready. Pass three tests in a row before you book the real one.

How to get the most from each test

  1. Sit your first test cold. Do not read anything first. This shows your real starting point.
  2. Write down the topics you got wrong.
  3. Read those chapters in the study guide.
  4. Drill each weak topic with practice by topic.
  5. Take another full mock test. Compare the two scores.

Do this every few days. Short, regular practice beats one long session the night before.

Common questions

Is the Life in the UK mock test really free?

Yes. Your first test costs nothing and needs no account and no card. You get one free test a day.

Do I need to sign up to take the free mock test?

No. You can start straight away with no email address. A free account only adds saved mistakes and topic practice with no limit.

How many questions are in the free mock test?

There are 24 questions and 45 minutes, the same as the real test. You need 18 correct to pass.

Are the questions the same as the real test?

They are not the real exam questions, because those are not published. Ours are based on the same official handbook and use the same format.

Can I take the free mock test more than once?

Yes. The questions are picked at random, so you see different ones each time. Without an account you get one test a day.

What score should I get before I book the real test?

Aim for 22 or more out of 24, three times in a row. The pass mark is 18, so that gives you room for a bad day.
